    Description

VOLPATOHATZ participated in a competition to design the new offices for CECAL ‘Canton Central Alarm Headquarters’, for the Police department, Fire department and Custom Officers of Bellinzona, Switzerland. The project required a short and long-term master plan of all existing and new buildings for a current and future planning view of the property. The concept for CECAL was to create a wavy motion across the facade with the use of a precast concrete columns to the building perimeter. Internally, a grid of structural columns and floating floors was adopted for each level, thus providing a flexible layout with light wall construction, with the exception of the fire stair and lift cores. Each level applied the same concept layout of a central corridor with offices on either side. A large landscaped terrace is accessible from the first level, whilst the ground level enjoyed direct access to the large landscaped common areas. The entire building meets the Swiss Minergie requirements.
