    Description

VOLPATOHATZ was selected along with 3 other Swiss architectural Swiss studios to design two similar luxury apartment buildings on two separate lots in the area of Bellerive, Lucerne. Specifically, both properties are located amongst large traditional villas close to the Lake of Lucerne with views also to the remarkable Mountains of Switzerland. The panoramic view is the principal force underlying the project, coupled with height controls, floor space ratios and volumes derived from setbacks which formed the basis of two monolithic buildings. The deep terraced openings on each level promoted cross ventilation and allowed natural light to reach into the centre of each apartment. Both buildings are sculptured to reflect the mountains beyond, cut and polished into monolithic blocks, they also share qualities similar to that of surrounding old villas. The external skin is clad with metal panels mounted onto an insulated structure. Each panel is embossed and de-bossed with a topographical map of the surrounding mountains.
