    Description

VOLPATOHATZ joined a major international competition for a 24’000m2 extension of the Asplund city library in Stockholm Sweden. The main concept of the new library extension involves replacing three existing Annexes with a new holistic form, which improves the storage, logistic and circulation when combined with the existing Asplund Library. The new extension reinforces the streetscape and strengthens the alignment between the Asplund Library and the commercial estate across Gyldengatan. The new extension is detached from the Asplund Library however a link is provided below ground to allow the public to communicate between buildings and books can be transferred via mechanical means. The hill behind extends into the new open courtyard providing a physical presence when moving through and around the courtyard on the upper levels.
