    Description

VOLPATOHATZ participated in a competition to design the new offices and ambulance services of ‘Croce Verde’ for the Municipality of Breganzona in Ticino, Switzerland. Additional to the core ambulance services, the project required a complex program of administrative offices, medical and dental studios, training rooms and office for the FCTSA department. The proposed language for this building was to express the thick horizontal floor levels by creating deep overhangs to balconies on all sides of the building, which was further accentuated by setting back the glass facade. The balconies are used by the staff and were designed to shade the offices. The depth of each balcony also varied in accordance to the sun path. The Croce Verde property is surrounded by a vast green field. The program also required the property to accommodate a large parking area for staff and visitors and a helicopter zone for emergencies. A proposed recreational park, perpendicular and adjacent to the property, allows access to the new building and be used by staff during their breaks.
